Condition Report:
*LOT 94 – STEINWAY MODEL O GRAND
Casework: Is in tired condition and although there is no major damage, it is now time for a re-polish. There is evidence of a plaque having been screwed to the treble end, just above the moulding.
Frame and Soundboard: The frame is good, but the stringing is less so. There is corrosion on the treble strings and, in my opinion, the bass strings will need to be replaced. There is evidence of Pin Tite, which is a fluid used to expand the wood around pins having been used in the bass area and the bass area is not holding its tune.
Keys and Keyboard: Are in good condition – two-piece ivories and there are no areas of damage. The keys at least, are in good condition.
Hammers and Action: The action looks solid, but again a certain amount of regulation is required – there are one or two sticking notes in the bass area. The hammers are acceptable but could do with a shaping – they are squared, particularly in the upper treble.
General Notes: In short, this piano has the potential of course, like all Model O’s, to be a wonderful instrument but now is time for restoration.
