How long does the auction last?

The auction usually lasts between 3 - 4 hrs. The auctioneer normally averages one lot per minute and a half, but this can be longer depending on the circumstances.

Do you start from Lot 1?

Yes! The auction runs in numerical order from start to finish. E.g. Lot 1, 2, 3 etc.

Do I need to register to buy a piano?

Yes, before you can bid on a piano you will need to fill out one of our registration forms or, register on one of our online platforms. For more information please read the Buy At Auction page.

Do I need ID to register?

Yes. You will need to provide either a Passport, Driving License or current Utility Bill.

How can I bid for a piano?

There are three options available. Absentee bid, Telephone bid or Online. For more information please read the Buy At Auction page.

Can I leave an absentee bid on more than one piano but only buy one?

Yes you can! When leaving an absentee bid tick the “I only want one piano” box, alternatively let us know at the front desk and we will organise this for you.

Are all the pianos tuned?

Not all pianos will have been tuned. This is an assessment made by our piano expert who will recommend tuning if it is badly out of tune and could effect the result.

What happens if I made a mistake and bid on the wrong piano or if I bid too much?

If you bid on the wrong piano and the gavel has gone down, you need to let the front desk know immediately.

If you bid too much, then you will need to immediately let the auctioneer know. You will have plenty of time before the gavel comes down.

What is a reserve?

A reserve is the minimum total that the vendor wants to sell their piano for. This is confidential but can never be higher than the lower end estimate.

Where does the auctioneer start the bidding?

Where the bidding starts is at the auctioneer’s discretion. He will offer it to the room at a certain price and reduce this until there is a bid. The auctioneer will not sell a piano if it is not in the vendor’s best interest.

How do I find a suitable piano for my level?

At every auction we have expert piano advisers on hand to answer all your questions, give advice and show you pianos perfect for your requirements.

Are the pianos sold with a warranty or guarantee?

We do not offer any warranty or guarantee. We have piano advisers available to discuss a piano’s condition and faults before the auction takes place.

Payment & Delivery FAQs

How soon after the piano has sold can I pay for it?

You will need to wait at least 10 lots (20-30 mins) after the lot no. you have purchased before you can pay.

Can I use another transport company to collect and deliver my piano?

Yes. You will be asked to provide the transport company’s details and contact number. Pianos must be removed by 16:00 on the Thursday after the auction. For more information please see the Transport page.

How is my piano delivered to me?

The normal process is that one of our nominated carriers will remove the piano from the venue, pack and hold it at their warehouse and then organise a delivery date with you.

How long will it take to get my piano delivered to me?

Our nominated carriers will try and get your piano to you as quickly as possible. They will be able to give you a delivery date when discussing your quotation.
