Lot 60 – Steinway (c1994) Grand Piano – | Est. £35,000-£45,000 Amendment

A 9ft (274cm) Model D concert grand piano in an ebonised case on square tapered legs. This Lot is subject to VAT.
The case is in generally acceptable condition but do keep in mind that this instrument has led its life as a performance piano and therefore bears scars of that varied career. There is damage to the front of the bass arm and there are various scratches, dings and dents too numerous to list individually. These do not spoil the overall look but as this is a potentially very valuable instrument a new owner may wish to polish at some point. Interestingly the lid is in a bright ebony finish, whilst the body of the piano is in satin and moving down to the leg at the back, it is in a bright finish, so a harlequin mix for the enthusiast. There are, of course, fine surface scratches. The veneer is lifting on the fall. The frame, stringing, soundboard and bridges are good. There is a little contamination to the frame, 1 or 2 discolouration marks but nothing more serious. The action looks to be in good condition and looks very clean, although investigation of the all-important action rails will need to be undertaken. The action functions nicely. It may well be that the hammers could benefit from re-shaping, although the instrument still sounds very good. The keyboard is in good condition and the material used for covering is plastic. There is, as one would expect, a certain amount of sideways play. A magnificent instrument, of course, that may well benefit from a little technical and cosmetic fettling.
