History of Sauter Pianos
In 1813, Johann Grimm travelled to Vienna to learn piano building from Johann Andreas Streicher and Nanette Stein. He took his learning forward with him and his heir and nephew, Carl Sauter, who expanded on Grimm’s workshop building virginals and employed more apprentices in 1846. The business bloomed into one of the leading piano factories in Swabia.
Upon his death, Johann Sauter took over the business, transforming the business from crafting virginals to pianofortes instead and from there, the business has only flourished and bloomed as it headed into the 20th century.
