A piano by Fazioli

Fazioli

The youngest of the great makers. Built by hand in Sacile, around 130 instruments a year.

About Fazioli.

Fazioli is the youngest member of the elite club. Founded in 1981 by Paolo Fazioli, an engineer with a PhD in piano design, the workshop in Sacile produces around 130 instruments a year, each one inspected and signed off by the founder.

Fazioli grands use a unique fourth pedal on the F308 concert grand which moves the hammers closer to the strings, allowing for a true pianissimo without affecting tone.

The F308, at over 10ft long, is one of the largest concert grands ever built and is favoured by pianists who want a brighter, more incisive Italian sound.

The Fazioli history.

Fazioli is the youngest of the world’s great piano makers, founded in 1981 by Paolo Fazioli, an engineer with a degree in piano performance and a doctorate in mechanical engineering.

1981

An engineer’s vision.

Paolo Fazioli, both a trained pianist and a mechanical engineer, founded the company in Sacile with the goal of building a piano without compromise. He approached the instrument scientifically, rethinking the scale, the soundboard and the action from the ground up.

1987

The fourth pedal.

Fazioli developed a unique fourth pedal for its concert grands, which brings the hammers closer to the strings to allow a true pianissimo without altering the tone. It is one of several innovations that set the Italian maker apart.

1998

The F308.

Fazioli completed the F308, at over ten feet one of the largest concert grands ever built. Its brilliant, incisive Italian voice quickly found favour with pianists seeking an alternative to the established makers.

2008

On the world’s stages.

Fazioli instruments began to appear in major concert halls and international competitions around the world, played by artists including Angela Hewitt and Herbie Hancock, confirming the young firm’s place at the highest level.

Today

Around 150 a year.

Fazioli still produces only around 150 instruments a year in Sacile, each built from red spruce grown in the Val di Fiemme, the same forest that supplied Stradivari, and each personally approved by Paolo Fazioli.
