A piano by Boston

Boston

Steinway-designed pianos built by Kawai in Japan. Excellent mid-range value.

About Boston.

Boston pianos are designed by Steinway & Sons and manufactured under Steinway supervision by Kawai in Japan. Launched in 1992 as a way to bring Steinway design principles to the home market at accessible price points.

The instruments use Steinway’s patented scaling but at smaller dimensions, and Kawai’s precision Japanese manufacturing. The result is a piano that punches well above its price point in tonal quality.

A natural step up from a Yamaha and a sensible entry to the Steinway family.

The Boston history.

Boston pianos are designed by Steinway & Sons and manufactured under Steinway supervision by Kawai in Japan.

1992

A Steinway idea.

Steinway & Sons launched the Boston line to answer a simple question: how to bring Steinway design thinking to players who could not yet reach a Steinway. The instruments were designed in New York to Steinway’s own principles.

1992

Built by Kawai.

Manufacturing was entrusted to Kawai in Japan, one of the few makers with the precision and scale to build to Steinway’s specifications. Every Boston is produced under Steinway supervision using Steinway’s patented scaling.

2009

A wider tail.

Successive generations of the Boston design refined the instrument, including the distinctive wider tail that gives the grands a fuller, more resonant bass than their compact dimensions would suggest.

Today

A step up from a Yamaha.

A Boston offers Steinway design and Japanese build quality at a price well below a Steinway, making it a sensible step up from a standard upright or grand and a genuine entry to the Steinway family.
