£8,000.00
A 6ft 11in Model B grand piano in a rosewood case on square tapered legs; on an ‘A’ frame.
Condition Report:
LOT 97 – STEINWAY GRAND
Casework: The case is in need of re-polishing – there is polish loss, fading, abrasion marks and a little veneer loss, particularly to the area around the keyboard – now would be a good time for a re-polishing.
Frame, Pins, Strings, Soundboard and Bridges: Are solid and this piano has been re-strung – my guess would be at some point in the last 30 or 40 years and this work has been done to a good standard and as a result this piano sounds vibrant and bright. Please note: there are one or two splits forming on the bass side of the soundboard but they are having no bearing on the sound.
Hammers and Action: The action has also had work done as witnessed by pencil numbering marks, which means it has been through somebody’s workshop, but will need cleaning.
Keys and Keyboard: The keyboard is a modern plastic replacement covering and one note is missing – the very final F is missing and this will need to be replaced.
General Notes: Also, a new owner will note that this piano is on an ‘A’ frame and the castors are not present, so before this piano can be taken off the ‘A’ frame, new castors will need to be sourced and fitted, so this is something that needs to be considered. When all the work is done, this will of course be a magnificent piano – it still plays very nicely and sounds very powerful.
