Condition Report:

LOT 75 – STEINWAY MODEL M GRAND

Casework:  Is generally good.  There is damage to the fall on the underside above the keys and this will need to be repaired.  There is also damage to the folding back portion of the top lid to the treble end – this will need to be dealt with too.  There is a bracket for a retainer by the lid prop that is also off but not missing (it is with the piano).  There are other small areas of damage, one or two scratches and one or two surface ring marks and that sort of thing but generally the piano is acceptable and once the damage has been rectified, it will be a nice looking piano.

Frame and Soundboard:  Are superficially good; however there is a minute, and very difficult to see, hairline crack – as one of my colleagues said, you would be hard pressed to pass a hair through it – it is just visible but is very hard to see.  It is having no bearing whatsoever on the piano’s sound and the piano seems to be holding concert pitch quite happily.  So, apart from that, the general interior is a little dusty but wholesome enough, so do bear in mind there is a hairline crack, and this can be pointed out to anyone who is interested if they just ask.

Keys and Keyboard:  Are in good condition – modern plastics material.

Hammers and Action:  Are good.

General Notes:  All in all, despite the rather alarming report, this piano sounds rather good and is generally clean.

This report is based on a cursory examination and is our opinion only.  It does not constitute a guarantee and potential buyers should satisfy themselves about the lot before bidding.
