A 7ft 5in 88-note Model C grand piano in an ebonised case on turned legs.
Condition Report:
LOT 73 – STEINWAY GRAND
Casework: The case has been re-polished at some point on the last 40 or 50 years but could now do with a little reviving in areas – there are small areas of polish lift and some polish loss damage, particularly to the area around the keyboard.
Frame, Pins, Strings, Soundboard and Bridges: Are good and the work done, obviously at the same time as the case, has stood up well.
Hammers and Action: The action also looks good and clean.
Keys and Keyboard: Is ivory – it is uniformly yellowing – it is in good condition bar one keytop which has a little nibble to the front edge.
General Notes: Interestingly, these ‘C’s are referred to by those in the know as ‘Sports Model Ds’ and also this piano would be among the first to receive the one piece rim for which Steinway are famed. Previous C iterations had section cases.
A powerful piano with a wonderful history. This is a potentially fine piano that needs a little work and will then be ready to go.

Pianos with ivory keyboards dating pre 1975 will have been registered with APHA on the government website. All pianos dating from 1947 - 1975 with ivory keys will have an Article 10 certificate in place.
