Lot 66 – Steinway (c1907) Grand Piano – | Est. £7,000-£9,000 Amendment

The case is in generally acceptable condition, although there are areas of polish loss, several abrasion marks and noticeable scratches, along with a few small blemishes. None of this detracts from the aristocratic bearing of this instrument. The frame is good but there is discolouration. The soundboard, likewise, is in good solid condition but there are 1 or 2 small splits forming under the bass strings – these can be ignored. The strings are acceptable but there is corrosion to both pins and strings. This is most noticeable in the treble area. The bridges are in good condition. The action is dusty and looks as if it has not had much attention for a fair few years. All, however, functions as it should, although as with all these instruments and particularly with a performance instrument of this type, the condition of the action rails will need to be determined and this will involve closer scrutiny. The keyboard is in reasonable condition and the material used for covering is ivory. There is an ivory key top missing. If you were looking for a Model C form a very good period, to act as a restoration platform, this could be just the instrument. Needless to say, as it is a Steinway and even with all its faults, it still sounds very good and powerful.
