A 6ft Art cased grand piano in the Secessionist style, the figured mahogany case with inlaid marquetry and mother of pearl floral motifs and polished metal strap work hinges, raised on six square cluster square column legs. This instrument has been restored in the past. Condition Report: The case is in good condition and has obviously been restored at some point in the recent past. This work has been done in a sympathetic manner. There are splits to some of the decorative panels and a minor split in the veneer to the top lid, under the folded section. These all merely add to the character. The frame is acceptable and has been re-gilded but as with all Bechsteins of this size – there are cracks in the limbs that are traditionally vulnerable. Although these crack appear obvious we have a Certifcate of Authenticity from 1066 Group stating that this frame has been repaired using a time-proven ‘Metallock’ cold-weld process prior to re-gilding works and the fitting of new agraffes. A copy of this certificate can be provided upon request. This is not having any bearing on the piano’s ability to hold tune. The stringing is good. The wrestplank has been replaced. The soundboard is good as are the bridges. The action is in very good condition and has been re-built to a very high standard using expensive components. The keyboard is in good condition and the material used is a nice off-white plastic. All in all – a highly attractive piano that plays nicely, sounds powerful and is good to go. This report is based on a cursory examination and is our opinion only. It does not constitute a guarantee and potential buyers should satisfy themselves about the lot before bidding.
