Lot 35: Steinway (c1981) – | Est. £20,000 – £25,000

A 6ft 11in Model B grand piano in a bright ebonised case on square tapered legs.
A 6ft 11in Model B grand piano in a bright ebonised case on square tapered legs. Condition Report: Steinway Model B Grand The case is good but there are the light surface scratches in most areas that we associate with these high shine finishes. They show up in critical light but disappear in an ambient setting. There are one or 2 small dings and dents and knocks and there is a piece of polyester which has fallen from the front rail. This is stress not trauma, so it is the unsympathetic movement of wood underneath. The vendor has very kindly left the piece in an envelope my guess is that the new owner will want to do a proper full re-polyester repair on this front rail. There is also a tiny bit of polyester movement around the rim of the lid and as I say one or 2 other nicks, dings and dents about the body of the piano itself but nothing that upsets the general looks. Stringing is good, a tiny amount of corrosion in the treble strings but this is just atmospheric. The frame is good a little bit of discolouration but nothing serious. Soundboard and bridges are good. The action is good. There is a little reluctance in the damper lift and therefore a small amount of regulation will be required in the action. The keyboard is good and the material used for covering is plastic. This is a nice piano that needs a little bit of fettling and will then be ready to carry on giving fine service. This piano has recently been tuned and it has been reported to me that there are absolutely no problems with the pins or indeed the strings. This report is based on a cursory examination and is our opinion only. It does not constitute a guarantee and potential buyers should satisfy themselves about the lot before bidding.
