Petrof - June 2021
Established in Old Bohemia in 1864 by Anton Petrof, this famous manufacturer rode the turbulent waves of European history, producing instruments of the highest quality despite the misfortune and inconvenience of various world wars, unexpected family death, outbreaks of cholera and from 1948 the dread hand of state control.
Now back in family ownership this fine maker produces over 15000 instruments a year. Devotees have included Ray Charles, Count Basie and Sir Paul (thumbs aloft) McCartney and that can’t be bad.
In our forthcoming sale we have six examples and among their number we have a splendid 5’7” P173 Rococo Breeze (yes they simply called it that!) and a handsome model 118 upright from 2015 in the ever fashionable bright ebony.
