Andreas Christensen Designed By Poul Henningsen - April 2021

Andreas Christensen began production in 1912 and over the next twenty five years employed the services of some of the most innovative contemporary designers in the pursuit of cutting edge modernity.

One such was Poul Henningsen who submitted startling designs for both grand and upright instruments. An author, architect, and social commentator, Henningsen had to flee to Sweden in fear of his life after publishing work critical of the collaborative Danish regime, but returned in 1945 to resume his career. It is worth noting that the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York holds an impressively futuristic “PH” grand piano in its collections. The upright example being offered by Piano Auctions is typical of the work of this pioneer and is strongly reminiscent of his famous and desirable lighting designs.
