All pianos dating from 1947 to 1975 with ivory keys will have an Article 10 certificate in place.

Description

A 6ft 2in Model A grand piano in a rosewood case on square tapered legs; together with 2 stools.

Condition Report:

LOT 33 – STEINWAY GRAND

Casework:  The case is acceptable but there are scratches, areas of fade, very minor veneer loss, particularly to the bass end, but nothing really noticeable.  At a push, the case might revive but effectively if you are worried about this sort of thing then now would be the time for a re-polish.

Frame, Pins, Strings, Soundboard and Bridges:  Are solid but dirty.  The treble strings are corroded and there is a certain amount of corrosion on the pins.

Hammers and Action:  The action, one again, is solid and complete but will need work.  There is a slight visitation from the moth on the hammers – nothing serious and they will certainly clean up, but just a little bit of surface damage because as we know those little devils have wonderful taste!

Keys and Keyboard:  Is ivory – there is yellowing and the keyboard itself, whilst intact, is discoloured, particularly in the middle section.

General Notes: The piano can be left as is, fettled and revived, or indeed restored.  Please note: this instrument also has a middle pedal which controls the sostenuto and this is working.

This report is based on a cursory examination and is our opinion only.  It does not constitute a guarantee and potential buyers should satisfy themselves about the lot before bidding.
