FORTE GRAND PIANOS

Piano Auctions Ltd continue to ‘discover’ rare and early pianos. In our 25 September 2014 sale we  featured two forte grand pianos.

Lot 54 Clementi
A 7ft 7in forte grand piano in a mahogany and banded case on a trestle base, compass of 5½ octaves. The fascia bearing the inscription, 'New Patent, Muzio Clementi & Compy, Cheapside London'.  Hammer price £6,000

Lot 50 Broadwood (c1787)
A rare five-octave forte grand piano in a mahogany case on a trestle base, the fascia bearing the inscription, ' Johannes Broadwood Londini Fecit 1787, Great Pulteney Street Golden Square'. The detailed history of the piano is included with this lot.  Hammer price £20,500 (pictures right)
