In the early-nineteenth century Vienna was one of the cultural centres of Europe and the rich would own a fortegrand with which they would entertain their friends at soirees and concerts.

These increasingly rare instruments are now much sought after. In our June 2012 sale we had, from the collection of the late Donald Adcock, a superb Cristoph Erler grand.
