Richard Reason in 1968

Richard Reason has not always been the Piano Specialist at Piano Auctions Ltd - he first made his name as a composer.  Gaining a place at the age of eighteen at the Royal Academy of Music, he studied under the ‘experimental’ composer Cornelius Cardew.  He went on to have concerts at the Wigmore Hall, South Bank, etc., eventually earning a precarious living teaching, lecturing and writing background music for nature films.

Richard says “This was the last piece I wrote in a more conventional style, and I was lucky to get permission to set the poems  It was one of those pieces that nearly got performed so many times but always seemed to ‘fall at the last hurdle’.  So, fifty years on I thought it was time it had an airing and what a performance it should be with the Internationally renowned Piatti String Quartet and the great singer Aidan Smith”.

An occasion not to be missed!
